You Give Love a Bad Name
June 2, 2024 | Pastor John Starr
In our ‘Summer Mixtape’ series, we begin with a reflection on Bon Jovi’s ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ and its implications for Christian love. Music, like the mixtapes of old, holds the power to convey deep emotions and messages, and as Christians, we must discern how to interact with media—embracing what aligns with God’s word, transforming the secular for His glory, or rejecting what contradicts His teachings. Love, as described in 1 John 4:7-13, is the very essence of God’s nature, an unconditional agape love. As Christ’s ambassadors, we face the challenge of loving others authentically, a task made possible through the transformative work of the Holy Spirit. This week, we are encouraged to extend Christ’s love to someone we find difficult to love, thereby embodying the true nature of God’s love in our daily interactions.
